New Pretties!

Well Spring is here! Yippee I'm starting to work with my contractor and building my new garage/art studio so I'll be crazy busy.  Also having hand surgery so I'll have some down time, then I"m off to the Pacific Northwest on vacation and a buying trip for my sale.  When I return home I'll get busy creating some new pretties for my first ever "Vintage Pretty" Sale to be held in my new studio.  Hopefully I'll have time to visit you all and keep up in blogland.

I'll be posting my creations for the sale over the next few months (they'll also be listed on Etsy until the sale). So here's the first, some "Jewel Keeps" to show off your jewelry collection or some other uses could be a pin cushion or you can even use it to display your favourite picture just pin it on.100_2451

And I wanted to post the lovely creations I won from the OWOH (One World One Heart) giveaway back in February).   I received a beautiful collage from Kathy, she's an amazing talent. I was a lucky gal because I also one the beautiful charm from the very gifted Deirdra. I also won the vintage mirror (pictured) part of a vanity set from Dona and I'm planning on restyling the brush into an altered art piece.  Thank you all, I will treasure my lovely prizes!

Best Antique Shopping in the USA

Need your help...quick post to ask the question, what town/city has some of the best antique shopping in the USA?  I'd like to plan a vacation and since my fav thing to do on vacation is antique shop I'd like to head somewhere with great antique shopping.  I love anything rustic, worn, torn & tattered, not the highly polished antiques.  If anyone has some suggestions please leave me a comment. THANKS!

I know rice cakes are good for you but I prefer LACE CAKES!

Well the springtime air and longer days have sparked my creativity.  I watched the film Marie Antoinette last weekend (great eye candy) and was inspired to do a collage with a modern, little girl twist. Lovely_things_collage

When finished I loved how the lace turned out. It looked like a lace cake...aaahhhaaaa, God gave me a wonderful idea (He gives me all my creative ideas)!  Then I got on a roll and started to create a bunch of lace cakes just because I love lace and I love cake.  I'll be posting them on Etsy this week.

~SPRING cleaning IS IN THE AIR~!

Yes, Spring is in the air! Yippee, I love, love, love spring!!! It’s my favourite time of year. Spring to me is a fresh and hopeful new beginning topped with fragrant flowers and a dash of sunshine. I feel so cheery this time of year and incredibly inspired... to create and to clean. Yes, you didn't hear wrong and as much as I dislike cleaning I’ve had an incredible urge to spring clean. Spring_bouquet_2 I’m also sorting out my temporary studio (sprawled all over my house) preparing to build a brand new studio/shop in my backyard. I’ll be posting pics when it's all prettied up and ready to go. Hope to have it ready in time for my Vintage Pretty Spring Sale.

It's spring fever.... You don't quite know what it is you DO want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!  Mark Twain

In the meantime I've been doing a bit of shopping online and received this fabulous little package with a lovely lollipop surprise from Andrea at one hundred wishes!100wishes_2  I can't wait to be done with all my cleaning done & get back into the studio to create using my new flashcards.

ONE WORLD ONE HEART ANNUAL GIVEAWAY!!!

One_heart_2

Oh happy me...Lisa, of Heart of the Nest is hosting the second annual One World One Heart annual giveaway. This is so exciting for me, a new blogger, and such an amazing event to meet fellow creative bloggers from all over the world.  Wow, I feel a bit giddy about the whole thing and I also am honoured (that’s how we spell it in Canada) to participate by giving away my latest creation. I quite like how it turned out and for a few minutes wanted to keep it but that makes it all the more special now and I’m thrilled to give it away and send it off to another creative soul out there in this big beautiful world.

Just leave me a comment with your name and I’ll pop it in my big flowery hat for the big draw on February 14th. Since I'm single I won’t be busy that day, so just think, you'll be making a single gal’s Valentine special!  I don’t believe in luck but may God throw a little blessing your way and may you be one of the blessed ones to win such special giveaways. Make sure to visit this wonderful event at One World One Heart to see all the amazing blogs and put your name in for so many lovely gifts.

Here's my pretty package for the winner~!  A restyled vintage bottle with a feather wand picture holder to display your fav pic or postcard! The picture holder is removeable if you want to just use the bottle.
A postcard I bought from a cart vendor along the Siene in Paris decoupaged on canvas and my soldered button charm for the bombshell in you!

Be Blessed

I think I'm really a little girl at heart and I love creating art for little ones.  Here's my latest collage, sweet lil guy, a little perturbed about the pearl on his nose but he's still sending the message out... Be Blessed!  I've just listed him on my Etsy shop and wanted to share him with you.

WINTERBELLA!!!

January was a hectic month for me, a bad flu bug took me down for a few weeks and recently I've been busy rescuing cats during a really cold snap.  I had joined the Winterbella group for the month of January but didn't have any time till last weekend so I was finally able to complete a couple of the projects and it was so fun!!! It's inspiring to see Teresa's ideas & techniques and see everyone's completed projects.

Here are a couple of creations I finished - a nature jar and an altered vintage bingo card personalized to tell a bit about me.  Off to the studio to work on some more...Lovebirds2_2Lovebirds5

crafty art... arty craft???

I was recently asked the below questions by an art student at the university for research.  She tells me this is an ongoing debate so I thought I'd share my views with you.

In your opinion what is the difference between art and craft?
Do you think there needs to be a boundary?

I'm not a formally trained artist and only recently began calling myself an artist after I took a mixed media course at Langara College in Vancouver.  I started out with no confidence but my classmates and teacher really gave my confidence a boost and helped me to realize I am an artist and the reason why.

Now I understand the difference... it's not a matter of training or even skill but the passion & heart behind what you create.  I know many crafters who enjoy a hobby or two, are extremely talented but the big difference is their level of passion.  They do like what they do but they could take it or leave it.  I believe an artist loves what they do, they live, eat & breathe what they do, regardless of how trained, skilled or gifted.  What happens is the passion shines through a creation and that is the miracle of art.

I think many people are passionate artists and they don't even know it.  They believe because they haven't had any formal training and it's not their career that they are not artists but when they jump out of bed in the morning, excited to create something and they put all their heart & soul into that piece, then that piece is art and they are an artist.

So my 2 cents...   only our spirit/soul knows the passion behind the creation.  I think there is no need to label what we do, let's just ignore the mind and it's reasoning when it comes to craft or art it just gets in the way!

Do you see the incredible gift of the ordinary?

God's handiwork shines in every little moment.  Sometimes we fly through life so fast we miss the pretty ordinary moments, gifts from God that just slip away unnoticed.  There is much so much ugly in the world, Lord help me to see your beauty & creativity and focus on the pretty.  Be attentive, look for the marvelous in the ordinary everyday.  Try writing down those average boring things in a new light.  By paying attention and giving thanks, the ordinary becomes the extraordinary!!!

Here's a few of mine...
-love the sweet sparrows that sing to me in the morning
-the magical speckles of dust floating in the rays of sunshine streaming through the window, yes God even created dust so it’s okay to have some
-the amazing grace & strength of the neighbour’s cat as he rushes over the 6ft fence
-the cheery sunshine bouncing off the sparkly snow
-the fresh, clean country air that I breathe
-the friendly smile of my neighbour as he shovels my sidewalk
-my peaceful winter garden with the secret hope of springtime
-the rustling sounds of the winter winds, making me feel cozy in my comfy lil home
-love waking to the gorgeous fragrance of a fresh bedside bouquet
-love sipping my dark roast coffee, snuggling up on the couch in my cozy housecoat reading my great new book first thing in the morning
-the beautiful fresh snowfall creating a winter wonderland right after you’ve spent hours shovelling all your walks100_1904_2
-the blue, blue vast sky without one cloud, the prettiest blue ever!
-the gracious beauty in the barren trees, Gods gift of fallen leaves so they aren’t blocking the sunshine we need more of in the winter, He thinks of every little detail!

The incredible gift of the ordinary! Glory comes streaming from the table of daily life.

I love what Helen Keller had to say in her essay “Three Days to See”, here's a portion of it...

Perhaps this short outline of how I should spend three days of sight does not agree with the programme you would set for yourself if you knew that you were about to be stricken blind. I am, however, sure that if you actually faced that fate your eyes would open to things you had never seen before, storing up memories for the long night ahead. You would use your eyes as never before. Everything you saw would become dear to you. Your eyes would touch and embrace every object that came within your range of vision. Then, at last, you would really see, and a new world of beauty would open itself before you.

I who am blind can give one hint to those who see - one admonition to those who would make full use of the gift of sight: Use your eyes as if tomorrow you would be stricken blind. And the same method can be applied to other senses. Hear the music of voices, the song of a bird, the mighty strains of an orchestra, as if you would be stricken deaf to-morrow. Touch each object you want to touch as if tomorrow your tactile sense would fail. Smell the perfume of flowers, taste with relish each morsel, as if tomorrow you could never smell and taste again. Make the most of every sense; glory in all the facets of pleasure and beauty which the world reveals to you through the several means of contact which Nature provides. But of all the senses, I am sure that sight must be the most delightful.  ~Helen Keller~
